I am a child of the 60’s
Born at a time when being Black
Was proud.
I wore an afro.
Went to the barbershop to have it trimmed.
Lived in a Black neighborhood
All I knew was black!
Went to a school filled with black teachers.
Black principal,
Black is my soul.
So much a part of me,
If I would give it up,
I would cease to exist.
Black is an attitude.
Black is soul food.
Black is music & swagger.
Black is a language.
The way I walk; the way I dance
Black are my ancestors who helped build America!
I too am an American!
